7.1 例題   In the violent conflicts which now trouble the earth the active contenders believe that since the struggle is so deadly it must be that the issues which divide them are deep. I think they are mistaken. Because parties are bitterly opposed, it does not necessarily follow that they have radically different purposes. The intensity of their antagonism is no measure of the divergence of their views. There has been many a ferocious quarrel among sectarians who worship the same God.

7.2.1 My father died on Tuesday. He had an intense love for me and it adds now to my grief and remorse that I did not go to Dublin to see him for so many years
  父は火曜日に亡くなった。父は私のことに深くかわいがってくれた。父に会いに何年もダブリンに行かなかったことが、今になって私の悲しみと後悔を深める。
7.2.2 It would seem logical that if parents care for children when they are not yet able to enter the labour market, then children will care for parents when they are no longer permitted to remain in it.
  子供が労働市場へ参入することがまだできないときに両親が子供の面倒を見るのならば、親が労働市場に留まることがこれ以上できなくなったときに子供が親の面倒を見るのは当然だと思えるかもしれない。
7.2.3 It is hardly to be expected that the less prosperous parts of the world will tamely accept the continually widening inequality.
  世界のうち繁栄において劣る地域が、たえず広がり続ける不平等を今後も従順に受け入れるとはまず思えない。
