 今日勉強した英語の中で間違えたことや調べたことをメモしておく。

コロケーション

 今回は古沢寛行・小宮山浩光・レコード,カービィ(2004)「コロケーション徹底演習I」(泰文堂)PP.92-95を参照。

 今回、間違えたのは以下の表現:

  576. Although he was willing to risk his political future on his commitment to civil rights, he did not realise he was in danger of assassination.
    彼は公民権への公約に自分の政治的未来を進んで賭けたが、暗殺の危険にさらされていることは全く知らなかった。
  588. After my uncle recovered from his heart attack, his doctor advised him to change his diet and to take moderate exercise every day.
    私の伯父が心臓発作から回復すると、主治医は食事を変えて適度の運動を毎日するように助言した。
  590. I understood why he might not want to accept my offer, but I was upset that he never even took the trouble to tell me personally.
    彼がなぜ私の提案を受けない可能性があるのか理解はしていたものの、彼がそれを私に個人的に話すことさえ厭うので私は面食らった。

  • escape, avoid, evadeの差異:escapeのみが自動詞で他は他動詞
  escape (in)transitive: to get away from or avoid an unpleasant or dangerous situation or event; to suffer no harm or less harm than you would expect
     E.g. She managed to escape from the burning car.
  avoid transitive: to not go near a particular person, place, event or situation
     E.g. She kept avoiding my eyes.
     E.g. I left early to avoid the rush hour.
  evade transitive: (rather formal) to avoid or escape from sb/sth
     E.g. He managed to evade capture.
